The Czech FWA (Fixed Wireless Access) tender steering committee yesterday recommended to the Czech Telecommunications Office (CTU) that Cesky Telecom be excluded from the current tender for an FAW license. This should not come as a surprise since the tender conditions prohibit operators or those who have direct or indirect stakes in operators of public fixed-line and cellular networks. Indeed, the head of the CTU had earlier stated that Cesky Telecom does not meet the tender conditions, and we expect that the CTU will follow the recommendation of the steering committee.
FWA networks provide an alternative technology toward reaching the end customer and, as such, are of great attraction for alternative telecom operators. Three licenses are to be awarded, each for CZK 150 mil. Thirteen bids were registered, and the license winners should be selected in September. Apart from Cesky Telecom, Ceske radiokomunikace also bid for a FWA license.
